Sightrisk is a new technology available to assess your risk of developing age-related blindness.

Sightrisk provides a solution to an international problem: age-related vision loss. Because of increasing life expectancy, age-related blindness is reaching epidemic levels. However, many of these eye conditions can be avoided by making positive lifestyle changes. Sightrisk provides online risk assessment tools to identify people who are at risk of developing blindness, and provide personalised advice on how to reduce this risk before the disease has a chance to develop.

Two of the eye conditions Sightrisk specialises in are age-related macular degeneration, more commonly known as AMD, and cataracts. These conditions are the leading causes of registered blindness worldwide, and yet with the right lifestyle choices, we can delay or even prevent blindness.

Dr. Dunoff is thrilled to have this new technology at his disposal, stating “with this new, fast, screening tool, we are able to help our patients identify and significantly reduce their risk of Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). This is truly a wonderful breakthrough in our quest to help our patients maintain optimal ocular health.”

Sightrisk uses calculators to determine risk. The Sightrisk Calculators were developed following a detailed review of the scientific literature. The results are displayed in a graph format, showing the patient’s current percentage risk from age 55 to 100, and their potential risk if the patient chooses a healthier lifestyle. A list of risk factors for each individual is presented below the graph. This makes the information simple for both eye doctor and patient to understand and discuss. Using this information the patient can clearly see the benefits and importance of improving their lifestyle in order to reduce their risk of age-related blindness.

By taking appropriate and informed action, in a timely manner, Sightrisk, along with your eye doctor and your own healthy choices, will help reduce the risk of vision loss..
